I am embarrassed to say that I had been looking for an affordable everyday hobo that I would not have to ‘baby’ for over a year. I had an ever growing laundry list of criteria that drove my poor helpful friends crazy. It had to be black, lightweight, sturdy and roomy enough to fit my entire lunch + netbook + flats/flops + umbrella + random odds and ends, have usable compartments and zipper closure. And let’s not forget that I wanted a classic bag that looks and feels expensive- for under $50. Put nicely, I am particularly selective about what I purchase. Remove the sugar coating, and you could say I am a persnickety creature crippled by indecision. I noticed this bag a few months ago on Baghaus, but passed on it because it seemed too plain. Even as I clicked “send” on my order, I still wasn’t convinced.

When it arrived, I realized what my hang up was- the pictures online do not do this bag justice. Urban Expressions is a vegan handbag brand that does an amazing job of simulating real leather. The basket weave detailing adds the interest I was looking for while maintaining a classic understated appeal. The gold hardware nicely complements my collection of predominantly gold-toned accessories.
